What Is That to You
Peter is restored, commissioned, and told how he will die. Then he looks over his shoulder.
Scripture John 21:20–22
Peter has just been restored. Three questions, three answers, and then a hard word about the kind of death he would die.
He turns around. John is walking behind them. And Peter asks the question that spoils the moment: “Lord, what about him?”
Jesus does not explain. He does not compare the two assignments or rank the two futures. He answers by refusing the question. “If I want him to remain until I return, what is that to you? You follow Me.”
Notice the timing. Peter had just been handed something specific: his own work, his own cost, his own ending. Within a sentence he wanted the terms somebody else was being offered.
That is usually how comparison arrives. Not in an empty moment, but right after God has said something particular to you, asking you to trade it for news about someone else.
The call was singular. Follow Me.
