Wounds and Kisses

Flattery is the cheapest thing one person can hand another.

Scripture Proverbs 27:6

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.”

Proverbs is describing a test, not recommending harshness.

Flattery costs nothing, which is why there is always so much of it in circulation. It is the cheapest thing one person can hand another.

The friend who tells you what you did not want to hear has spent something to do it. They put the friendship at risk on your behalf, knowing you might not thank them for it.

When did someone last tell you a hard thing to your face?

If you cannot remember, the problem may not be the people around you.
