Before He Hears It
Proverbs does not call it rudeness. It uses two harder words.
Scripture Proverbs 18:13 · Proverbs 18:2
“He who answers a matter before he hears it.” Proverbs finishes that line with two words: folly, and disgrace.
Not impatience. Not a small social failure to apologise for later. Folly, which in this book is a way of being and not a slip, and disgrace, which is what other people end up seeing.
Earlier in the same chapter the fool is described as someone who takes no pleasure in understanding, only in airing his own opinions. The two lines belong together. If the goal is to be heard rather than to know, then listening is only the pause before your turn, and the pause keeps getting shorter.
Most of us are not arguing badly. We are answering early.
